Cuyutlan
South of Manzanillo
South of Manzanillo, Cuyutlan boasts a black sand beach and the “green wave”. Popular with people from Colima on long weekends, it is a good wave hopping beach and surfing on occasions. Often the red flags are out and because of under tow, make sure to go into the ocean at the marked spots. The black sand is very hot and wooden plank paths are placed strategically onto the beach. There are many small restaurants on the beach offering the freshest seafood and cold cervezas. The town is home to the salt museum and the Turtle sanctuary and lagoon. Good for a day’s outing.
Both Cuyutlan and El Paraiso are accessible without going through toll booths
Cihuatlan
North of Manzanillo
El Paraiso
South of Manzanillo
Close to Cuyutlan, is the small fishing village of Boca Pascuales which is a very rustic town that was almost wiped out by high sea just a few seasons ago. Great fish restaurants abound here, serving shrimp and fish caught just hours ago.
Boca Pascuales
South of Manzanillo
This small coast town, also with a black sand beach is reached by driving through the Palm Groves and Lemon Ranches of Tecoman. There is nothing here at all except for a few very good fish & seafood restaurants which can be packed with families at the weekends and holidays.
El Real
South of Manzanillo
Along a very rugged coats road south from Boca
Pascuales is the small village of
El Real
Another beach area with just fish restaurants. Several
houses have been built along the coast road from
Pascuales over the years, but have been treated very
harshly by the ocean. Many lay in ruins as a reminder to
what can happen in these remote areas.
Quite often the summer storms come up the coast as far
as here and then either go inland to Tecoman or bounce
off the coast and head for Los Cabos on Baja California
Tecoman
South of Manzanillo
Tecoman is a small agricultural town harbouring many packing houses for Limes, Melons, Cocos and Papayas. It is an interesting town to visit for a day and gateway to the road to Acapulco & the south of Mexico
Coastecomate
North of Melaque
Is a fishing village immediately north of Melaque that has become the object of attention from many northerners wishing to build in the area
La Manzanilla
North of Melaque
Famous for the
Caiman Crocodiles living within the confines of town and
separated from humans by only a chicken wire fence, La
Manzanillo is an Artists paradise. Clear light,
beautiful ocean views with expensive homes clinging to
the side of the mountains surrounding this small town.
It is an interesting day trip to take. The beach is good
for walking and swimming and several very good
restaurants are in the town. Worthy of note are
Jolanda’s for Indonesian and Asian food and Martin’s at
the end of the Bay.
There is an excellent Art Gallery here and an
interesting looking hotel, many guest houses and tend
for yourself apartments for those wishing a quiet and
peaceful retreat
Tenacatita
North of Melaque
Tenacatita , a beautiful spot for snorkelling and swimming in crystal clear waters is just up the coast road, Boca de Iguana is a well known trailer oasis with a new hotel and accommodations and some of the best shrimp dishes available for miles in small Ramada Restaurants. The Blue Bay all inclusive resort is nearby as well plus the exclusive Golf resort of El Tamarindo and the exclusive Hollywood star loved El Careyes hotel & Polo Club. The famous Goldsmith family have their very private Mexican ranch just to the north, outside of the mini town of Chamela
This coastline, Costa Alegre (Happy Coast) is under the eye of the Mexican government for more tourist area development and the road to Puerto Vallarta will eventually be completely repaved and opened up stretching from Manzanillo. The road from Manzanillo to Melaque is the first part of this reconstruction, well paved and safe to drive on.
